New cycling and walking path opens
The new Shared Use Path (SUP) on the recently duplicated sections of Main South Road and Victor Harbor Road opened to the public recently.
The path runs almost the full length of the Main South Road Duplication—from Griffiths Drive to Port Road, Aldinga, and part of Victor Harbor Road.
Cyclists and walkers should be aware that FCA site vehicles will cross the path intermittently at two locations—the FCA’s Aldinga site compound and the site compound close to the new Pedler Creek bridge. Signage and traffic and pedestrian management will be in place to ensure safety at these locations.
The Pedler Creek bridge crossing will be in place for several months while the crossing at Aldinga compound will be in place until Stage 2 of the project is complete.
SUP users should note that some surface cracks have appeared on the asphalt of the Shared Use Path. They are minor in nature.
Sealing repair work to the cracks is visible on the pathway’s asphalt surface. The imperfections pose no safety issues to walkers and cyclists using the Shared Use Path.
Travellers on the Shared Use Path should look out for the newly installed Kaurna artwork during their journeys. This includes:
- the stunning mural inside the Coast to Vines underpass
- artwork on the entrance to the Coast to Vines underpass
- the rest node where visitors can stop and rest near Thomas Road
- the artwork on the balustrades of the Pedler Creek bridge
- the artwork installed on the Tatachilla Road entrance to Tatachilla underpass
- Ngaltingga – the official name for Port Road bridge, and the artwork under the bridge.
The SUP will be monitored and sections replaced over the next two years.
