Main South Road Duplication project (Stage 2)
Stage 2 of the Main South Road Duplication project opened to traffic in its final road configuration on Saturday 7 February 2026. The project covers the section of Main South Road between Aldinga and Sellicks Beach.
All lanes, intersections, ramps, and the new underpass are now operational and functioning as designed. While major works are now complete, finishing works such as landscaping and minor detailing will continue over the coming months.
In late 2022, the South Australian Government released the concept design for Stage 2, covering Main South Road from Aldinga through to Sellicks Beach. The project has been jointly funded by the Australian and South Australian governments.
Stage 2 includes:
- Realignment of Aldinga Beach Road and Sellicks Beach Road intersections
- A grade-separated underpass at the intersection of Main South Road with the newly realigned Aldinga Road and Aldinga Beach Road
- Two U-turn facilities to support local access, in addition to the Aldinga interchange
- Intersection upgrades at Hart and Colville Roads, Norman and Rogers Roads, and Hahn and Cox Roads
- Wide centre medians and wire rope safety barriers separating northbound and southbound traffic
- A shared use path along the western side of Main South Road
Remaining works will involve intermittent activity near the road corridor. Temporary traffic controls may be required at times.
The project is expected to be fully completed in 2026 and has supported approximately 405 full-time equivalent jobs across the construction period.
