Building success: How determination drives a young career in civil construction

At just 20 years old, Dylan Redburgh has completed his apprenticeship and is excelling in civil construction, having worked on two significant projects with CPB Contractors. Currently working on the Fleurieu Connections Alliance (FCA), Dylan’s drive for continuous improvement has not gone unnoticed. He was recently recognised by his peers through the internal rewards and recognition program for his dedication and commitment to the project.

A Rewarding Experience with CPB Contractors

Dylan’s experience with CPB has been transformative. “Working for CPB has been a thrilling experience. They prioritise worker safety and provide great support,” he says. With their guidance, Dylan has gained the skills and confidence to succeed as a Civil Construction Plant Operator. He credits CPB with helping him grow both professionally and personally, giving him the tools to thrive in the industry.

Developing Key Skills

Throughout his apprenticeship, Dylan earned his Certificate III in Civil Construction and developed essential skills like communication, teamwork, time management, and attention to detail. Reflecting on his early days, Dylan admits it took time to build confidence. However, with each day on the job, he became more self-assured, taking pride in his progress and the skills he has mastered along the way.

Recognition and Drive

Being a finalist for the First Nations Apprentice/Trainee of the Year at Maxima was a major milestone for Dylan. "This recognition made me realise how far I’ve come, and it motivates me to keep striving," he explains. His recent recognition by peers through the internal rewards program for his continuous improvement has further fuelled his determination to excel in his career.

Overcoming Challenges with Family Support

One of Dylan’s biggest challenges was commuting between Port Augusta and Adelaide during his apprenticeship. Despite limited resources, he remained committed, sacrificing time with friends to focus on his career. "The travel was tough, but my family—especially my mum and pop—helped me push through. I wouldn’t be where I am today without their support," he says.

A Promising Future with CPB Contractors

Now working on his second major project with CPB, Dylan is optimistic about the future. "I see myself continuing to grow with CPB. They’ve given me so many opportunities, and I’m excited to keep moving forward in civil construction," he shares.

Dylan’s journey is a testament to how determination, support, and a commitment to continuous improvement can shape a young career in civil construction. His success serves as an inspiration to others, showing that with perseverance, anything is possible.
