Project Update - April 2025
The $810 million Fleurieu Connections project is jointly funded by the Australian and South Australian governments.
Over the last few months, we’ve achieved a series of key milestones on the project, including switching traffic onto the new northbound carriageway, as well as opening the new Aldinga Bridge.
In the coming months, we’ll continue to achieve more key milestones, when the southbound ramps open to traffic, and key utility relocations and upgrades are finalised.
We’re on track for project completion in early 2026.
East meets west – Aldinga Bridge open to traffic

Aldinga Beach Road and Aldinga Road have been realigned and the bridge connecting east to west is now open.
We’re pleased to share that the new bridge at the Aldinga Interchange opened to traffic at 5am on Monday, 3 March.
This marks a significant milestone for the project, with the bridge now providing a safe and direct connection between Willunga and Aldinga Beach. The opening supports improved east–west travel across Main South Road and is a key step in progressing the overall upgrade.
Thank you to the local community for your patience during construction, and for continuing to drive with care as works in the area continue.
Shifting gears – northbound carriageway now in use

Traffic between Aldinga and Sellicks Beach has been moved onto the new northbound carriageway while the southbound lanes are being constructed.
As part of the next phase of construction, traffic between Aldinga and Sellicks Beach has now been shifted onto the newly completed northbound carriageway.
This traffic switch allows crews to begin building the new southbound lanes, which will ultimately form part of the upgraded Main South Road.
Please follow all signage and speed limits while adjusting to the new traffic conditions and thank you for your continued cooperation as we deliver this significant infrastructure upgrade.
Works are progressing well
Across the project, works are progressing well, and we’d like to thank you for your continued patience and understanding.
As we head into the cooler months, we’re working hard to complete critical activities ahead of periods of adverse weather, which can impact construction progress. Your ongoing cooperation during this time is greatly appreciated.
Works will continue to take place during the day (between 7am and 7pm, Monday to Saturday), and at night when required (between 7pm and 7am, Sunday to Friday). We’ll continue to keep you informed ahead of any more disruptive works.
Upcoming traffic changes

Traffic will soon be travelling on the new southbound on and off ramps, which cross the newly realigned intersection of Aldinga Road and Aldinga Beach Road.
We’re approaching another key milestone in the delivery of the Main South Road Duplication project, with further changes to traffic conditions expected in the coming months.
Southbound traffic will soon transition onto the new southbound on and off ramps. When this occurs, the northbound ramps – which are currently accommodating both directions – will revert to their intended northbound-only use.
Temporary traffic signals currently in place at the intersection of Aldinga Beach Road, Aldinga Road and Main South Road will remain in operation, and additional temporary signals will be introduced at the new southbound ramps to safely manage traffic through the interchange.
East–west access will continue to be maintained via the new Aldinga Interchange bridge, ensuring ongoing connectivity between Aldinga and Aldinga Beach.
Looking ahead, once the full interchange is complete and the underpass opens to traffic, Main South Road will provide free-flowing, signal-free travel through the underpass – a major step forward in improving safety and reducing travel times for all road users.
Sausages for a cause – SuperSuction SA fires up the grill for Judith’s Legacy

The charity barbecue hosted by the team from SuperSuction raised $500 for Judith's Legacy
A big shout-out to SuperSuction SA, who turned up the heat and fired up the barbecue recently in support of charity. The BBQ fundraiser brought crews and staff together for a great cause – raising awareness and funds for families impacted by cancer, through local Aldinga charity – Judith’s Legacy.
With bacon and egg rolls, sausage sandwiches, and plenty of good vibes on offer, the SuperSuction team led the charge, cooking up a storm and collecting gold coin donations throughout the morning. Thanks to the generosity of everyone involved, over $500 was raised – all of which will go directly to supporting the important work of Judith’s Legacy across South Australia.
The event was a fantastic show of community spirit, with strong turnout and a shared commitment to making a difference.
Green growth along Main South Road

The landscaping program will soon start along the stage 2 duplication of Main South Road with 100,000 plants ready to be added alongside the new roadway.
More than 100,000 plants will soon transform the Main South Road Duplication (Stage 2) project area, as landscaping works begin to take shape.
Spanning from Aldinga to Sellicks Beach, the planting program features a rich variety of native and water-sensitive species, including groundcovers, grasses, aquatic plants, understory shrubs, and large trees.
The design has been carefully developed to enhance the natural environment, improve biodiversity, and provide long-term visual appeal for the community.
With planting scheduled to roll out in stages, more details about specific locations and timings will be shared in the coming months. Stay tuned for more information as we bring colour, texture and life to this important stretch of road.
