Breakthrough for Agricultural Machinery Underpass
After approximately 10 months of digging, concreting and reinforcing the structure, the 38 metre-long underpass is nearing completion with daylight now visible on both sides. The Agricultural Machinery Underpass provides a new and safe passage for farm machinery travelling east/west on Thomas and Branson Roads. The underpass is 5.6 metres wide and 5.2 metres high, ensuring sufficient space for the safe movement of farming equipment. This new passage means that heavy machinery no longer needs to cross busy Main South Road—which will soon be four lanes. Local farmers worked with the State Government and the Fleurieu Connections Alliance on this solution. The result is a win for the local agricultural and viticultural communities, and drivers on Main South Road. The new underpass also provides new access for off-road cyclists, trail walkers, and wildlife. This Agricultural Machinery Underpass is a key structure on the Main South Road Duplication (stage 1). Final concreting and works on the roads leading into the underpass are now underway. It is anticipated that the underpass will be open for farm machinery to pass through in December 2023. |
