Main South Road Duplication Project (Stage 2) - Aldinga to Sellicks Beach

Stage 2 of the Main South Road Duplication project is now under construction.

The project is expected to be completed in 2026 and will support 405 full-time equivalent jobs over the construction period.

In late 2022, the South Australian government released the concept design for Stage 2 of the Main South Road Duplication project that covers the section of Main South Road from Aldinga Beach Road through to Sellicks Beach. The full road duplication, restoring an additional lane for the project, has been funded jointly by the Australian and South Australian governments.

Proposed concepts for Stage 2 include the following:

1. realignment of Aldinga Beach Road intersection and Sellicks Beach Road intersection;
2. an underpass at the intersection of Main South Road with the newly re-aligned Aldinga Road and Aldinga Beach Road;
3. two U-turns to facilitate local access in addition to the Aldinga interchange;
4. key intersection upgrades at Hart and Colville Roads, Norman and Rogers Roads, and Hahn and Cox Roads;
5. installation of wide centre medians, wire rope safety barriers to separate northbound and southbound traffic; and
6. a Shared Use Path (SUP) along the western side of Main South Road.
